Good air, october. a wedding dinner.

The almada, oncologist gynecologist, and mariana ferrer, obstetrician, have been known for years: take - the husband of mariana - and diego are friends from the faculty. but that night, at a dinner between the two marriages, they find something new. that their hospitals are two blocks away. they share a way of thinking the body. there's a conversation they hadn't had. there's a technical joke about the hemodynamic function of coffee. there's something else below that neither of us can name.

Five months later, diego dies hit by a central avenue.

Being onenarrates that interval. a novel built with alternating voices that moves between four narrators - diego, marian, luía, tomás - and that advances with the clinical accuracy of those trained to diagnose, but not to diagnose. diego begins to awaken with the physical feeling of having been in another body. marian experiences uterine contractions during a birth that is not his. symptoms accumulate, are not named, do not respond to any known protocol. each leak between the two is exclusively body: a cold in the feet at 4: 00 p.m., a postural tiredness without cause, a hand that knows a keyboard that never touched.

What the novel holds is not the affair - which exists - nor the secret that they keep in front of their partners - that too. what holds it is the question of what exactly is going on between these two bodies, and why the question does not have a possible human answer.

Being oneis a novel about the body as an instrument of measuring something that the mind still does not understand about two doctors who learn to suspect of their own diagnosis. on marriage, fidelity and symmetry with which the previous scenes are broken and on a cosmological hypothesis that the reader will understand only after closing the book.

A first novel built with the economy of a medical certificate and the emotional temperature of a hospital guard at 4: 00 in the morning.
